Mysuru Kendra

Yogoda Satsanga Society of India (YSS) was founded by Sri Sri Paramahansa Yogananda in 1917. Yogoda Satsanga Dhyana Kendra, Mysuru, established in 1991, is situated at CH-31, “Hall of Spirituality”, 7th Main, 5th Cross, Saraswathipuram, Mysuru. The Kendra is open to all and is a hive for devotee-bees to participate in regular group meditations and personally experience the “nectar” of God’s presence within. As part of the meditation services, healing prayers are offered to all who ask for it as well as prayers for world peace and brotherhood. (Meditation Schedule)

The Kendra celebrates the birth and mahasamadhi days of YSS Gurus during the year. On such occasions, commemorative long meditations are also held. Other activities include reading of YSS lessons, reading of “God talks with Arjuna” (translation and commentary of The Bhagavad Gita by Paramahansa Yogananda), and chanting classes on a periodic basis. YSS publications including books, CDs, and DVDs and other artefacts are also available for purchase.

The Kendra also conducts humanitarian services (such as medical camps, food distribution, clothes distribution and natural disaster relief) and educational activities (to bring awareness of YSS teachings in schools/colleges).

History of the Kendra

Sri Sri Paramahansaji in Mysuru

In November 1935, Sri Sri Paramahansa Yoganandaji was a guest of the state of Mysuru at the invitation of Maharaja’s heir H.H. the Yuvaraja Sri Kanteerava Narasimharaja Wadiyar. He visited the Yuvaraja’s summer palace and enjoyed a ride on one of his elephants. He addressed thousands of citizens and students in Mysuru City at the Town Hall, the Maharaja’s College, and the University Medical School.  He also visited Chamundi Temple in the hills overlooking Mysuru, and Krishnaraja Sagar Dam, twelve miles outside Mysuru City.

The forming of the Kendra

In the initial days, a railway official was conducting weekly meditations informally in his quarters.

Yogoda Satsanga Dhyana Mandali of Mysuru was inaugurated in 1991 by Sri Hariputran of Bangalore centre, at the home of a devotee Sri K. Venkataram in Bogadi.  In 1998, the Mandali was shifted to the home of another devotee, Sri K. L. Ramaswamy in Sriramapura.  Regular group meditations were held on Sundays in Sri Ramaswamy’s residence, and subsequently, on Thursdays at Sri K Prasanna Kumar’s residence in Saraswathipuram (the current venue).  In 2003, the Mandali was completely shifted to Saraswathipuram.

In 2006, Yogoda Satsanga Dhyana Mandali was upgraded to Yogoda Satsanga Dhyana Kendra by YSS of India to continue with the activities of the Society; adhering to the YSS guidelines for conducting meditations and humanitarian activities.

In 2018, the building property housing the Kendra was donated to Yogoda Satsanga Society (YSS) by Sri K Prasanna Kumar and Smt T Nagarathnamma in the august presence of Swami Smaranananda Giri, the then General Secretary of YSS, on the auspicious day of Geetha Jayanthi and Vaikunta Ekadashi on 18th of December, 2018.
